J.C. Blair Celebrates Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week Helping Patients Breathe Better

In recognition of Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week, March 8 – 14, 2015, J.C. Blair Pulmonary Rehabilitation department celebrates the success of pulmonary rehab graduates. J.C. Blair Volunteer Amelda Weaver has noticed marked improvement in her health, thanks to the pulmonary rehabilitation program at J.C. Blair Hospital in Huntingdon. “My doctors recommended the program when I was diagnosed with a fungus in the lungs and COPD,” said Weaver. “I feel much better now and have improved functioning in my lungs.”

Local Nutrition Professionals Host Community Make & Take Supper

J.C. Blair’s Let’s Move mini-grant committee invites individuals, families, and friends to learn how to make an affordable, nutritious and delicious meal to take home and eat or freeze for another day. The Community Make and Take Supper event will be held at the Huntingdon Community Center on Wednesday, March 25th from 5-7 p.m. The event is free, but donations will be accepted. Space is limited and reservations need to be made by Monday, March 16, by calling (814) 643–8833.

Last Deliveries for J.C. Blair’s Dr. Ken Lee

J.C. Blair Obstetrician/Gynecologist Dr. Ken Lee closed one chapter of his career on January 28, 2015 when, after 35 years, he delivered his last two babies, and opened a new chapter as a member of the J.C. Blair Medical Services team to continue his renown gynecological surgery and well woman care. Dr. Lee is currently on a leave of absence for family health reasons. His last two deliveries were, what seem to be, full of remarkable coincidences that will be remembered by him, his staff, and the maternity staff at J.C. Blair.

J.C. Blair Announces Plans for Convenient Care Center

J.C. Blair Health System will open the J.C. Blair Convenient Care Center in the Giant Plaza off Route 22 in Huntingdon mid-May. The new center will feature a walk-in clinic, a QuickLAB, X-ray services, occupational health care, and orthopedic and sports medicine care.  

PinnacleHealth Orthopedic Surgeon Joins J.C. Blair

J.C. Blair Medical Services is pleased to announce that orthopedic surgeon William DeMuth, M.D., has joined Robert Dahmus, M.D. and Eric Kutz, D.O., in the Second Floor Specialty Care Center at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. These orthopedists, along with William Tyndall, M.D., enable J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon to offer a full complement of orthopedic services.

Wear Pink for Pink Zone on Friday, February 27

J.C. Blair invites area businesses and organizations to encourage their employees to pay $5 to wear pink on February 27, 2015 to support the Pennsylvania Pink Zone and J.C Blair’s Alliance for Breast Care. The event is one of many events the Hospital is sponsoring to promote the Penn State Pink Zone game on Sunday, March 1, when the Lady Lion basketball team takes on the Wisconsin Badgers at the Bryce Jordan Center.  Over 700 breast cancer survivors are expected at this game to celebrate their victory and continue their fight to find a cure.

J.C. Blair Awarded “Let’s Move! Pennsylvania” Mini-Grant

J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital was one of three Pennsylvania organizations awarded a “Let’s Move! Pennsylvania” Mini Grant by the Penn State Extension Office. Representatives from J.C. Blair and a team of community volunteers applied for the grant to support a Community Make and Take Supper event that they are planning for Tuesday, March 24 at the Huntingdon Community Center. Penn State Extension offered the mini grant to those who attended the state-wide Let’s Move! Pennsylvania Conference held in October at Penn State.

J.C. Blair Expands Safer Testing with New CT Scanner

To make CT (computerized tomography) exams as safe and accurate as possible for its patients, J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon has acquired Toshiba’s Aquilion PRIME 80 slice CT scanner with radiation dose reduction technology.

 

“This new equipment reduces radiation dose, enabling safer CT exams for patients, while also improving image quality needed for diagnoses,” explained Larry Garman, director of radiology. “We are able to provide the best possible patient care because of the added flexibility and technology of this new scanner.” 

J.C. Blair Internist Receives Dual Board Certification

Amanda Schell, D.O., a member of the medical staff of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, recently received recognition by receiving dual board certification in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM).

J.C. Blair Invests in New Anesthesia Monitoring System
