Water Line Break Forces J.C. Blair Convenient Care Center to Close

A water line break at the J.C. Convenient Care Center, located in the Giant Plaza off Route 22 in Huntingdon, forced the center to temporarily close. There is no damage to the new center, as the break occurred outside the building under the sidewalk. When discovered this morning, the water was shut off. J.C. Blair’s maintenance team is consulting with the contractor who installed the water line for assistance in the repair.

J.C. Blair Physician Practices Move

Friday, September 25, was moving day for J.C. Blair’s Women’s Care Center and Dr. Ken Lee’s Women’s Gynecology Center.  Women’s Care Center office staff from Drs. Meyn, Navarro and Nurse Practitioner Romona Shope’s practice are shown packing and moving equipment and supplies from their office at 790 Bryan Street (across from the Main Entrance of the Hospital) to Dr. Ken Lee’s office on the 3rd floor of the hospital.

J.C. Blair & Huntingdon PennDOT Employees Team Up for Kids

J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital and the employees of Huntingdon PennDOT partnered again for the eleventh year in a bike raffle at the Hospital’s Huntingdon County Fair booth.  Winners this year were Lin Li, age 9, of Collin DeHart, age 9, of Huntingdon. Each year Huntingdon PennDOT employees collect donations to purchase the bikes for the fair. Andrea Teeters, SafeKids Coordinator (center) provided bike helmets for each of the winners. 

J.C. Blair to Host Health Insurance Outreach Events

J.C. Blair Health System, a PinnacleHealth affiliate, will host two health insurance outreach events in the hospital’s main lobby on Tuesday, September 29 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, September 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The hospital will partner with the Area Agency on Aging and the Huntingdon County Office of the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services to educate individuals in the community on available health insurance options though the federal Marketplace, Medicare, and Medical Assistance during the open enrollment periods that kick off this fall.

New Corporate Challenge for 9th Annual Grugan Run/Walk October 17

J.C. Blair’s annual Scott Grugan Memorial Run/Walk will feature a new corporate challenge this year to encourage employees to get moving and support their local community. The 9th Annual Scott Grugan Memorial 5K and One Mile Trail Run or Walk will take place on Saturday, October 17 at Flag Pole Hill, Huntingdon. The 5K Walk will start at 9:00 a.m.; the 5K Run will start at 10:00 a.m.; the one mile walk or run will start at 10:10 a.m. with a Kids Fun Run at the conclusion of the morning events.

Orthopedic Partnership Sponsors Pre-Season Sports Medicine Expo

A new Huntingdon County orthopedic care partnership is sponsoring a Pre-Season Sports Medicine Expo on Wednesday, August 5, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the J.C. Blair Therapy & Wellness Center on the campus of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.  The goal of the event is to create awareness and educate area athletes, parents, athletic trainers, coaches, and athletic directors of the local services now available in Huntingdon County to prevent injury and get an injured athlete treated, rehabilitated and back to playing safely as soon as possible.  

J.C. Blair Welcomes New Registered Dietitians

J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital is pleased to welcome Bonita Chen, MS, MPH, RD, LDN and Linda Krupa, RD, LDN, as the Hospital’s new registered dietitians.

Orthopedic Summer Education Series Kicks Off

Orthopedic surgeon William A. Tyndall, MD, Ph.D., presented an informational learning session about common shoulder problems and treatments on July 1 at Westminster Woods. This event was organized by a new orthopedic partnership which includes J.C. Blair Health System, J.C. Blair Therapy and Wellness Center, University Orthopedics and Westminster Woods. The partnership is working together to promote the complete continuum of orthopedic care services that is now available in Huntingdon County.

Community State Bank Supports new Convenient Care Center

Community State Bank of Orbisonia has committed $10,000 to name a patient exam room in J.C. Blair’s new Convenient Care Center, which opened May 19 at the Giant Plaza in Huntingdon.  

The Dangers of Heat Illness in Young Children: Tips for Traveling with Young Passengers

The Fourth of July represents the peak of the summer season.  It is a time for people to enjoy family vacations and cookouts by the barbecue.  However, it is also a time where heatwaves and humidity can bring elevated temperatures ranging from 80 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.   Furthermore, as the temperature rises throughout the summer months, the risk of heat illness also increases for those with young children riding in vehicles on such days.
